• Chelated, complexed, or organic trace minerals have great potential in animal nutrition. Their improved bio availability may be beneficial at many stages of the animal's life.
• The young growing animal has not only the stress of rapid growth, but also of high levels of activity. Intake is quite high, relative to body size; therefore, rate of food passage is high. since food spends less time in the gut, there is less time for absorption of essential nutrients such as minerals. Adult animals under heavy exercise or stress have the same problem.
• Older, mature adult animals have a different problem. Rate of food passage is slower due to lower food intake, but the efficiency of absorption of nutrients by the intestine is often drastically reduced in these mature animals.
• Providing a significant portion of the supplemental trace minerals as organic trace minerals may help animals at various stages of life better meet the body's nutrient needs.
